Not every day is a good day. Today the syllabus felt impossibly large, and the exam date felt impossibly close. I spent the morning re-reading notes I'd already studied three times, not because I needed to, but because re-reading feels productive even when it isn't.
What I actually did
- Reviewed public finance notes — fiscal federalism, specifically. Nepal's transition to three tiers of government is fascinating in theory but messy in practice.
- Read a chapter of Thinking, Fast and Slow for comfort. Kahneman's honesty about the limits of his own research is grounding.
What I'm feeling
Restless. The kind of restlessness that comes from knowing you should be doing more but not being able to settle on what. The solution is usually to pick one thing and do it — any action is better than anxious inaction.
I went for a walk. That helped.
A small win
I finally finished the draft on "The Economics of Remittances" — it's been sitting half-written for weeks. Sometimes the hardest part is the last 20%.
Discipline is choosing between what you want now and what you want most.
